Jamshedpur, May 8: Former national handball player Sajid Khan drowned in the Subernarekha river while taking a bath in the water body along the Donation Thana area late on Sunday afternoon.
The body was recovered on Monday morning after the police had pressed a team of local divers.
A resident of Dhatkidih in Bistupur, Sajid (32) had gone to take a bath in the river on his way back home at about 4 pm.
According to sources, after taking a plunge into the Subernarekha, Sajid had ventured into a deep-water zone at the Domuhani and drowned there.
After the information reached Sonari Thana, the police pressed a couple of divers for locating the body. But despite prolonged attempts by the divers, the body could not be located on Sunday. The police had resumed the search operation by pressing the same team of divers this morning.
“We have recovered the body of a 32-year-old man who had drowned in the Subernarekha late afternoon on Sunday. The body is being sent to the MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem, ” said OC, Sonari Thana while talking to lagatar24.com.
Sajid Khan represented Jharkhand in the Junior National Handball Championship in 2010 and won a bronze medal. He was presently earning a living by driving car.
