New Delhi, Sept 16: Captain Amarinder Singh, a former two-term chief minister of Punjab, will join BJP by combining his party, the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC), with the saffron party the next week.

While a top adviser to the Captain stated that the date had not yet been finalised, sources close to the former chief minister claimed that the merger will occur on September 19. However, he asserted that Capt. Amarinder Singh would undoubtedly join the BJP.

The 80-year-old Captain recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid rumours that he is set to receive a major position in the BJP after joining it. He is expected to depart for New Delhi on September 18.

After leaving the Congress after being abruptly removed by the party’s top command as chief minister in September of last year, Capt. Amarinder Singh founded the PLC. He was succeeded by Charanjit Singh Channi as chief minister till the elections in February 2022.
