Daltonganj, Sept 27: A board of three doctors of the Medinirai medical college hospital (MMCH) Daltonganj conducted a medical examination of 4 alleged rapists late in the evening of Monday, September 26.

Medical superintendent of the MMCH Daltonganj Dr Dilip Kumar Singh told “The 3 doctors of the board are Sanjay Kumar, R K Ranjan and Jayant Ghosh. Police brought the 4 for the medical examination in the Satbarwa alleged gang rape case.”

One other senior doctor preferring anonymity said, “Such medical examination of accused rapists is mandated. Similar medical observations for injuries and assault marks are looked for on the body of the rape victim as well. He added that reports of such medical observation and examination are pursued by the prosecution as well as by the defense side in the court of law.

“These accused rapists are to be remanded in judicial custody today,” said SDPO Surjit Kumar. The 2 persons caught by the public were remanded in judicial custody on Monday.

The SDPO said the forwarding of the alleged rapists in the judicial remand on two different days, in this case, is due to the timing of their arrest. The two were caught by the public on September 25 and were handed down to the Manika police. So they were remanded in judicial custody on September 26. The other four caught by the Satbarwa police on September 26 will be remanded today.

These four accused were caught on the night of September 26 in the case of gang rape at Satbarwa where a 3-month pregnant woman was sexually assaulted by them along with the other two.

“Under the directive of Palamu SP Chandan Kumar Sinha, 3 teams of police worked out for this case and caught the accused in the shortest possible time. Two others, in this case, were caught by the public earlier on September 25. All are accused of sexually assaulting a young married woman under the Satbarwa police station on the intervening night of September 24-25,” SDPO Surjit Kumar said.

About the incident, the SDPO said that the woman was walking down the road declining her husband’s offer to join him and reach home. Her husband and one of the relatives nevertheless walked with her too but the situation seemed as if they were strangers to each other. Meanwhile, the six accused thought her to be a woman subject to torture and taking advantage of her physical and mental distress, further subjected her to the gang sexual assault.

As regards the health of the rape victim, MMCH medical superintendent said “Our doctors have found her 3-month pregnant. She has teeth bite on her cheek. Her USG has been suggested. The doctors have taken care of her as far as possible.”
