Four dead, 42 injured as sleeper bus meets with accident on Agra-Lucknow Expressway

New Delhi, Oct 23: A bus accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district resulted in at least four fatalities and 42 major injuries in the early hours of Sunday. Authorities have opened an investigation into the tragedy and have transferred the injured to a hospital for treatment.

As per the Etawah administration, the sleeper bus had 46 people on board and was travelling from Gorakhpur to Ajmer Sharif. The bus driver slept off while operating the bus on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway close to Saifai. The bus struck a truck hauling a cargo of gritty sand.

As soon as the police were informed about the accident, they reached the spot and helped move the injured passengers out of the bus and shift them to Saifai’s PGI Hospital. At least 42 people from the bus are currently undergoing treatment.

Following the accident, DM Etawah Avnish Kumar Rai, SSP Etawah Jaiprakash Singh ADM Etawah and Deputy DM Saifai reached the spot and inspected the area. They later reached PGI Hospital, Saifai and took stock of the condition of the injured.

The concerned officials and PGI doctors were directed to provide all possible help and proper treatment to the injured.
