Ranchi, Dec.17: Former two-term Lohardaga MLA Kamal Kishore Bhagat died in suspicious circumstances at his residence while his wife, Neeru Shanti Bhagat, who had also contested election as an NDA candidate from the same constituency was admitted to a hospital in serious condition.

The couple was hale and hearty when they had gone to sleep last night after dinner.

“When both did not come out till late in the morning today and also did not respond to our calls, we became suspicious and broke open the door. I noticed both of them lying unconscious on their bed. We took both of them to Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Dada  dead while referring Bhouji to RIMS for better treatment,” said the younger brother of the deceased, Ajit Tana Bhagat to a section of local media.

A locality resident said it was hardly four days when Kamal Kishore had talked to the media and told how lucky he was.

“He had some health problems. He had survived that a week ago and was happy finding himself safe,” a local resident added that ‘God knows what happened the couple landed in trouble.’

A police official said the reason behind the death will be ascertained only after an autopsy which will be done by a five-member medical board with a video camera recording the entire process of the autopsy. Apart from this, we are also waiting for the wife of the deceased undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital to regain sense.

Bhagat had the status of an agitator who agitated for getting separate state status to Jharkhand.

Superintendent of police of the district, Priyanka Meena, said police had started a probe into the matter.

“Though none of the family members have given any written information in the matter so far, police have started a probe. A team of FSL has been called to collect the necessary evidence. Apart from this, other legal steps have been taken for a fair investigation,” Meena said, adding ‘the reason behind the death is yet to be ascertained.’
