Ranchi, Dec 17: People of East Singhbhum respond well towards the vaccination drive as the district tops the vaccination drive list with 88% of the population taking the first dose and 55% of the population taking both the doses.

On the other hand, the Lohardaga district remains at the bottom with only 62% of the population getting the first dose, and the Chatra district with 30% of the population taking both doses. Similarly, Chatra, Dhanbad, Garhwa, Giridih, Gumla, Latehar, Palamu and West Singhbhum remained below 70% in providing the first dose.

While Ranchi has administered 77% beneficiaries with the first dose and 43% with both the doses.

East Singhbhum’s Civil Surgeon Dr AK Lal gave the credit to the people and Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar for achieving the highest percentage in the vaccination drive.

“We have focused on the awareness of the people of the district by organising different camps and also all the government officials took the vaccination first which encouraged the people to take the vaccine,” Lal said.

“The administration supported each and every movement of the health officials which made that possible and soon we will achieve the 100% first dose vaccination,” Lal further added.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren on December 10 instructed the health officials concerned to ensure 100% vaccination coverage in the state by January 20 next year.

The revised deadline is reportedly set as it became imminent that Jharkhand is most unlikely to meet the Centre’s target of meeting the 100% vaccination coverage by December 25 this year. As of December 15, only 39% of the state’s 2.41 crore beneficiaries have been administered both doses while 72% have received their first doses.
