Bokaro, Sept. 22: A catastrophic explosion rocked the Bakaro Railway loco running staff’s running room at around 10 a.m. today. Haradhan and Sarita, workers in the running room’s kitchen, were critically hurt in the incident. According to the reports, many personnel were injured but they all fled the scene. Prima facie, the explosion seems like it was triggered by a ruptured LPG cylinder.

After an assessment of the explosion site, the kitchen wall was found to be entirely damaged on two sides, and there was a report of a break in the ceiling. In the running room, there is a residential setup for 68 guards and drivers, according to reports. At the time of the incident, about forty people were present at the spot. The fire department’s team arrived on the scene and handled the situation. Officials from the railway have arrived on the scene to investigate the incident.

The sound of the explosion was so strong that people at first thought that a big bomb had exploded somewhere nearby. However, the railway officials then clarified that it was not an explosion of a bomb but an explosion in an LPG cylinder. Fire department officer Surendra Yadav said that when the information about the incident reached them, the entire kitchen was destroyed. Further investigation will reveal whether the explosion was only due to the fire in the cylinder or some kind of explosive material. It was being said that domestic gas was being used in the kitchen by the contractor. There is a fire extinguisher cylinder for fire safety here but no one is trained to use it.

After the incident, the kitchen waste is being removed. It is being monitored by the Regional Railway Manager Arvind S himself. The Railway Administration is not allowing anybody near the explosion site.
