New Delhi, Oct 20: The giant dome of the Jami Mosque in North Jakarta, Indonesia, caught fire and collapsed on Wednesday, while being renovated. From the scene, a big cloud of smoke could be seen rising.
The mosque is situated on the grounds of the Jakarta Islamic Centre, a centre for research and development on Islam. Images from the tragedy depict the moment the enormous dome fell after becoming fully consumed in flames.
No one was hurt in the incident, according to police.
Four employees of the company hired to renovate the mosque have reportedly been questioned by police, who are also looking into the incident’s cause.
