Dhanbad, Nov 25: One died and two battle for life after a stepmother fed her children poison-laced chicken rice. The bizarre incident occurred in Rohantand village under Tisri police station, around 57.2 km away from Giridih district headquarters on Thursday.
Tisri police station officer-in-charge Piku Prasad told media persons that the accused stepmother Sunita Hansda has been arrested from her father’s house in Goriyachu under Gawa police station and she confessed her crime.
The police officer said Sunita Hansda cooked poison-laced chicken rice and fed her three sons Anil Soren (3), Shankar Soren (8) and Vijay Soren (12) on Thursday afternoon. Having found a bad test, Vijay did not eat the full plate but the other two Anil and Shankar ate completely.
After feeding the trio, Sunita Hansda fled away to her father’s village Goriyachu. Elder brother Vijay informed her aunt when the condition of his brothers began to deteriorate.
With the help of Child Line, all trio were brought to Tisri community health centre (CHC) where the doctor declared Anil dead. Shankar and Vijay were referred to Giridih Sadar hospital in the evening.
Police officials said stepmother Sunita had been living in her father’s house and came to her in-laws’ house on Wednesday evening. She had brought chicken and rice with her. On Thursday, she cooked the food and fed her trio of sons in absence of her grandfather and grandmother.
Sunil Soren, the father of the victims married Sunita in April 2022. He has five children four sons and a daughter from his first wife Shailin Marandi who died from a snake bite in 2020.
In September, Sunil left for his job in Bengaluru, leaving his children under his grandfather and grandmother. His second wife also went way to her father’s house and all of sudden arrived on Wednesday evening.
On Thursday, the grandfather and grandmother of the children were out of the house when the stepmother committed the crime.
