Hazaribag, Nov 25: Cyber fraud posed as an employee of the prestigious Sainik School Telaiya in the Koderma district and duped Rs 17,000 from a driver. The victim identified as Sonu Kumar Pandit of Buchchitand area gave a complaint in writing to the police in this regard at Telaiya police station.
Pandit said that a few days ago, he received a call from a man who identified himself as an employee of the school.
“He told me that he was transferred to a similar school in Gaya of Bihar and so wants to book my four-wheeler for transportation of household items,” he said.
When Pandit agreed, the caller told him that for entry into Sainik School, he need an entry pass. He took Pandit in confidence making him transfer Rs.5,000 to his account.
Despite the money being transferred, the caller told Pandit that he didn’t receive the amount forcing him this time to send him Rs.10,000. Again fraudster said the same that he didn’t receive the money. Pandit this time transferred Rs.2000.
With Pandit transferring Rs.17,000, the fraudster stopped calling him. Realising that he has been cheated by cyber fraud, Pandit gave a complaint to the police demanding the lodging of an FIR followed by action.
An assistant sub-inspector said they are probing the matter.
“But I request people not to entertain anyone unidentified over the phone. Even police are educating people to remain alert from time to time but still many are getting trapped,” he added.
