Dhanbad, Feb 14: Giridih police have put social media groups of the district under the lens and have initiated legal action against some group members for their objection posts over brewing tension in the region.
In this regard, official sources said that the police headquarters has issued names of 11 persons for legal action over posting objectionable comments on social media groups.
Notably, tension is brewing in Giridih after the alleged mob lynching of a youth in Barhi of Hazaribagh district last week. Besides comments in social media groups, social organizations are also demonstrating against the incident.
Giridih Sadar SDPO Anil Kumar Singh admitted that the police are keeping a close eye on messages, photos, videos, posts and comments shared by group admin and its members in social media groups of WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
“If any objectionable post of a member is found, legal action would be initiated against that person,” he said.
However, the police official denied that legal action has been initiated against 11 persons for posting objectionable comments on social media.
Section 144 imposed in all four sub-divisions
The Giridih administration has imposed Section 144 in all four subdivisions of the district for an indefinite period.
Giridih Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Sinha told media persons that he had written to all SDMs to impose Section 144 in their respective areas following apprehension of disturbance to law and order situation due to procession and demonstration of different organizations and political parties.
“So, based on the letter, SDM of Giridih, Khorimahua, Dumri and Bagodar-Saria have imposed prohibitory orders in the area for implementation of Covid-19 guidelines,” he said.
