Daltonganj, Feb 14: The first day of 57 medicos for the academic session 2021-22 in the Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) was full of joy and excitement.
A senior doctor of the college Atul Prakash said the presence of 57 students on the first day of their session in the first year is very encouraging.
He said some parents are still hoping to manage a more impressive medical college for their wards instead of this medical college in Daltonganj.
Prakash said, “We have well placed the girl students in the hostel while boys of this new first-year session have been kept at a safer distance from their seniors in the third year.
“There is an issue of drinking water here. We do not know how the coming summer will be here for our students and teachers and staff,” he added.
“Mess is functioning and we will be monitoring the quantity and quality of it,” said Prakash.
Prakash said that the medical college requires a bus as the medicos need to be carried to the government hospital in Daltonganj for their effective orientation. The distance between the medical college and hospital is around 7 kilometers and the bus is essential.
Another faculty member Dr. Neelam Agrawal agreed that there is a need to coordinate with media people as then only then this medical college will have a connection with sensitive and sensible citizens.
“The White Coat ceremony in MMCH will be held when all 100 admissions will complete,” said Principal Dr. Shailendra Kumar.
New medicos on their admission are given white apron in this ceremony and it is called the ‘white coat ceremony’ in the medical fraternity.
A medico needs to wear the white coat on the campus as it is a part of their identity.
The principal reminded that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission has given a letter of the renewal of permission to take admission on 100 seats for the academic year 2021 – 22.
Out of the 100 seats, 83 admissions are to be taken on the state quota.
15 seats are to be filled with admissions under the All India quota. This is for people and families who are in the All India service so that their wards can avail admission facilities.
The remaining 2 seats are to be filled with the Central nominees.
Kumar said, “Till date, we have taken admission of 73 students out of the state 83 quotas. We would get 10 more admissions to have our full state quota capacity of 83 admissions. We are waiting for the 15 students to come over here on the All India quota and 2 to come as the Central nominees.”
“The two Central nominees here are from Meghalaya. We are very optimistic of the coming over of these two,” he added.
MMCH started functioning in October 2019. It had 92 students in its maiden academic year 2019 -20. There was no admission in the academic year 2020 – 21.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the National Medical Commission had put curbs on the admission here in this medical college for the academic year 2020 – 2021 citing huge deficiencies in teaching staff and infrastructural facilities.
As there is already a 92 strength batch of the medicos in this college studying since October 2019, the college administration has put its anti-ragging measures in place.
