New Delhi, June 19: With former recipients like Ramakrishna Mission and Nelson Mandela, the 2021 winner of International Gandhi peace prize is the Gorakhpur based publication, Geeta press.
The Government of India instituted the International Gandhi peace prize in 1995, to mark the 125th birth anniversary of the national stalwart, awarding individuals and organizations that espoused the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and worked towards economic, political and social advancement through non-violent and other Gandhian means.
A jury headed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi conferred the prize to Geeta press, announced by Union culture minister in a media release on Sunday, June 19, in recognition of its century long contribution towards promoting social harmony and peace. Geeta press, established in 1923, is the world’s largest producer of Hindu religious texts, having published 41.7 crore books in 14 languages, including 16.21 crore Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.
