Dumka, Dec.10: Godda BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has demanded imposition of President’s rule in Jharkhand in the backdrop of the prevailing indifference on the part of the state government to comply with the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to immediately remove the Deoghar deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri.
The ECI had on December 6 issued a direction through a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) to remove Bhajantri after finding his explanation pertaining to the lodging of 5 FIRs against Dubey in October this year for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC) during the April by-election of the Madhupur assembly constituency, to be unsatisfactory.
The ECI has also directed for imposing a major penalty against Bhajantri within a fortnight besides keeping him at bay in election duty and posting him on the post of deputy commissioner any further until so permitted by it.
“Let alone the matter of complying with the ECI’s directive to remove him from the post of the deputy commissioner of Deoghar the ruling JMM has come forward to challenge the same before the court through a press conference in the state capital,” he added.
“I have raised the issue of the indifference of the state government towards compliance of the ECI directives in the parliament today and demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in Jharkhand,” Dubey said.
He further added that by showing its indifference the Hemant Soren government was only demeaning the constitutional body which would, in turn, prove costly to the democratic setup of the country for establishing a bad precedent against elected parliamentarians and legislators.
“I have already moved a privilege motion in parliament against the Deoghar deputy commissioner for not complying with my directive being the ex-officio chairman of the District Infrastructure Scheme Advisory (DISHA) committee,” Dubey added.
