Chakradharpur: Passengers of Goilkera station are set to get major relief as the Railway Ministry has approved the stoppage of the Howrah–Kantabanji Ispat Express, following a question raised by Singhbhum MP Joba Majhi in Parliament on Wednesday. Responding to her unstarred question, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed that the long-pending demand has been accepted.
MP Highlights Passenger Hardship Since COVID-19
Majhi informed the House that before the COVID-19 period, the Ispat Express regularly halted at Goilkera. However, after the pandemic, the train began operating under two separate numbers—12871/12872 for three days a week and 22861/22862 for the remaining four days.
The issue arose when the 22861/22862 service did not include a stop at Goilkera, causing confusion and prolonged inconvenience to passengers. Despite writing to the railway division headquarters, the matter remained unresolved until it was raised again in the Winter Session of Parliament.
Railway Minister Confirms Stoppage Approval
Upon raising the issue in Parliament, Majhi received assurance from Minister Vaishnaw that the Howrah–Kantabanji–Howrah Express (Train No. 22861/22862) will be granted a stoppage at Goilkera. The implementation is expected soon, offering significant relief to daily commuters and local residents.
