Ahmedabad, July 12: Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad on Tuesday had confiscated 75.3 kg of heroin from a container close to the Mundra port in the Kutch area, with a value estimated at 376.5 crore rupees.
According to Gujarat’s Director General of Police Ashish Bhatia, the contraband was sent from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was intended to be sent to Punjab. It was concealed inside fabric rolls to elude detection.
According to Bhatia, the Punjab police recently tipped off the Gujarat ATS that a shipping container that arrived at the Mundra port approximately two and a half months ago might be carrying drugs and was destined for delivery in Punjab.
“After getting the basic information, a Gujarat ATS team along with a Punjab police sub-inspector reached Mundra and located the suspected container kept at a Container Freight Station near the port. It arrived at the Mundra port on May 13 from Ajman Free Zone in the UAE,” he said.
According to Bhatia, the ATS discovered 75.3 kg of high-purity heroin estimated to be worth 376.5 crore rupees on the international market.
He stated that the container was intended to be carried to Punjab and that no arrests have yet been made.
According to him, the container was delivered from the UAE by a company named Green Forest General Trading and was accepted by Jovial Container Lines, a delivery company based in West Bengal with an office in Gandhidham, Kutch. Bhatia responded that it was incorrect to single out a single port when asked why no action had been taken against the Mundra port officials.
