Gujarat Election: Voting underway for 89 seats in first phase

New Delhi, Dec 1: The first phase of voting in the Gujarat assembly election is taking place today on 89 seats distributed over 19 districts in the state’s southern and Saurashtra-Kutch regions.

Voting started at 8 am and will last until 5 pm. Congressman Rahul Gandhi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi all urged voters to turn out in huge numbers for the first round of voting in Gujarat. There are up to 788 people running, and Gujarat will see a three-way race between the BJP, AAP, and Congress.

AAP candidate for chief minister Isudan Gadhvi is running from Khambhaliya, former Congressman and BJP candidate Hardik Patel is running from Viramgam, and Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel is running from Ghatlodia. Rivaba Jadeja, the wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, is running from Jamnagar.
