Gujarat police detains filmmaker Avinash Das for sharing photo of Amit Shah with jailed IAS

New Delhi, July 19: Filmmaker Avinash Das was detained by the Ahmedabad crime branch in Mumbai for posting a picture of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and detained IAS officer Pooja Singhal.

Das had also published a disturbing image of a woman sporting a multicoloured clothing. Das was picked up by representatives from the Ahmedabad crime branch while he was making his way to his workplace, according to sources in the crime branch.

According to the police, Das posted a picture of Shah and IAS officer Pooja Singhal from the Jharkhand cadre who had been arrested on Twitter with the claim that the picture had been taken prior to the officer’s detention.

Notably, Pooja Singhal, an IAS officer, was detained by the Enforcement Directorate on suspicion of money laundering. Videos showing the money that authorities took from her home have become very popular.

Das will be presented tomorrow at the Ahmedabad Metro Court.

After the sessions court denied Das anticipatory bail, he petitioned the Gujarat High Court, but it was denied. On May 14, the Crime Branch of the Ahmedabad Police filed a complaint against Avinash Das.

He was booked under Section 469 (whoever commits forgery) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 67 (punishment for any person for transmitting obscene material that is lascivious in nature) of the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Prevention of Crime of National Honor Act.
