New Delhi, Dec 8: As the Bharatiya Janata Party achieved a historic victory in the state assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his thanks to the people of Gujarat.

“Thank you Gujarat. I am overcome with a lot of emotions seeing the phenomenal election results. People blessed politics of development and at the same time expressed a desire that they want this momentum to continue at a greater pace. I bow to Gujarat’s Jan Shakti,” PM Modi tweeted.

On Thursday, the BJP won a historic victory in Gujarat by winning 156 seats, breaking all previous records. In 2022 election, the party, then led by Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, won 127 seats. On December 12 at 2:00 PM, current chief minister Bhupendra Pate will take the oath of office.

The AAP, which triumphed in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on December 7 is the story aside from the BJP’s surge. In its first election there, the party was in the lead in 5 seats. If the trends are confirmed by the results, the AAP will score a major victory since Gujarat offers a fertile ground for growth as a viable alternative to the Congress, which has lost the support of the electorate.

The leads coming out of Gujarat also imply that the AAP is benefiting from the Congress’s missteps and splintering its base of support, even though it is still unable to completely win over minorities and tribals. These two groups continue to be anomalies in the general BJP support wave.
