Gumla: Three girls die while trying to save each other from drowning

Ranchi, April 4: Three school girls died while trying to save each other from drowning in Gumla on Tuesday. The incident took place in Asni Navatoli village under the Sadar police station area of Gumla district when the trio had gone to take bath in a pond and one of them started drowning.

“When one went to save the other she also started drowning. As the third noticed the same she also went to save both. Finally all drowned to death,” a police official said, quoting a local woman who raised the alarm after witnessing the incident.

Those who died include Anima Kumari (9), Saroj Kumari (9) and Monika Kumari (12). They were daughters of Ragho Oraon, Birsai Lohra and Kartik Oraon respectively.

They were declared dead by doctors after villagers retrieved them from the pond and taken to Sadar Hospital with the help of a police van. The incident left the entire village mourning.
