Jamshedpur, Oct 26: The gun-shot injured armourer, Dilip Kumar Singh who was undergoing treatment at a Calcutta hospital, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital on Monday midnight.
The 42-year-old cop had sustained the injuries on Friday afternoon while he was cleaning a rifle at the armoury in the Seraikela Police Line in the Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
The victim was rushed to Seraikela Sadar Hospital and was subsequently shifted to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur immediately in view of the seriousness of the injuries.
Singh (42) had later on Saturday afternoon taken to a Calcutta-based hospital for better treatment as his condition had started deteriorating at the Tata Main Hospital due to an internal injury.
The armourer had sustained the injuries in the chest and the pellet had damaged an important artery linking to the heart.
Sergeant major, Seraikela, Dilip Paswan confirmed the death of the armourer.
“The injured armourer Dilip Kumar Singh succumbed to his injuries around midnight. We are bringing the body to Seraikela where it would be accorded guard of honour at the police line today, ” said Paswan.
Significantly, West Singhbhum SP, Ajay Linda, who is presently in-charge as SP, Seraikela-Kharsawan said they would carry out a probe into the circumstances under which the armourer was injured.
“Whether it is a pistol or rifle, a firearm is cleaned only when it is empty. But the armourer was injured when he was cleaning a rifle. How could it be possible,” quipped Linda.
He said the SP, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Anand Prakash had already ordered for an enquiry before going on leave on Saturday, but the matter assumes significance as the armourer died of his gun-shot injuries.
