Jamshedpur, Oct 23: The 42-year-old constable who was admitted to Tata Main Hospital on Friday on getting gun-shot injury has been taken to a Calcutta hospital for better treatment this afternoon.

A group of Police Men’s Association members made a contribution to the tune of Rs 35,000 hastily and shifted the injured cop, Dilip Kumar Singh to Calcutta in an ambulance soon after the doctors attending him opined that the gun-shot victim needs an internal surgery possible in Calcutta only.

Sergeant major, Seraikela, Dilip Paswan confirmed about the constable being shifted to Calcutta.

“The doctors at the Tata Main Hospital had taken care of the gun-shot injured, but there was an internal injury in the victim’s chest. An internal surgery was required immediately, which was not possible at the hospital here. This was the reason that the injured had to be shifted to a hospital in Calcutta, ” said the sergeant major who was looking after the treatment of the victim here.

Paswan said the condition of the injured constable is stable and there was no need for worry.

The injured constable who was posted at Seraikela Police Line armoury as an armourer was injured as the rifle he was cleaning at the armoury accidentally went off on Friday afternoon.

None of the police officers posted in Seraikela-Kharsawan could say exactly how did the mishap take place and why was the armourer cleaning a loaded rifle.

Seraikela-Kharsawan SP, Anand Prakash is on leave from today. Also on leave from today is Seraikela thana OC, Manohar Kumar. DSP (Headquarters) Chadan Kumar who was supposed to carry out a probe into the matter was not accessible over the phone as his cellphone was found not reachable despite repeated attempts.
