Hazaribag, Oct 2: After sohrai painting on the walls and pillars of district collectorate, deputy commissioner Nancy Sahay and superintendent of police Manoj Ratan Chauthe inaugurated a large statue of Mahatma Gandhi with spinning wheel and Ashok Stambh on Gandhi Jayanti. Gandhi’s statue is 15 feet whereas Ashok Stambh is 16 feet high.
Both the structures made by a retired teacher of Navodaya Vidyalaya, Anil Prithvi. The two structures are made in the garden of the collectorate which are now two new attractions and going to be a new selfie points for visitors.
Sahay and Chauthe inaugurated the two structures in presence of deputy development commissioner Prerna Dikshit, IAS on probation Satakshi Majumdar and subdivisional officer Vidya Bhushan. Both officials said Gandhi ji’s role in independence of India was inspiring and so his statue here will make everyone coming here to remember his contribution for the country and feel proud.
About Anil Prithvi, he got his art degree from Shanti Niketan. He joined a private school in Dhanbad but later in 1989 joined as a teacher in Navodaya Vidyalaya. But he failed to keep himself aloof from painting and statue making. In 1994, he was sent to Navodaya vidyalaya in Lohardaga where he made an idol of a youth with bow and arrow. The journey of Anil Prithvi started from there is now continuing with Hazaribag city has many of his statue installed in college, chowks and now district collectorate.
