Hazaribag, Jan 5: Sand mafias attacked a team led by circle officer of Chouparan Premchand Kumar Sinha on Wednesday night. The rifle of a police jawan was also snatched and thrown into the river. Sinha today complained in writing to Chouparan police after which the process to lodge an FIR in this regard started.
In his complaint, Sinha said he went to carry out a raid with a team comprised of ASI of Chouparan police station Ram Mahto beside a few armed jawans. At the banks of the Barakar river near Hajaridhamna village, they saw seven tractors laden with sand.
As the team tried to stop the tractors from leaving the spot, they were attacked. Sinha said Dwarika Mahto, Binod Yadav and Sanjay Yadav snatched the rifle of policeman Jitendra Kumar and threw it into the river water. Sinha said his driver Mahendra Chandravanshi took out the rifle from the river water. Even Binod Yadav steered the tractor towards Jitendra trying to crush him under the wheel.
Sinha in his complaint said mafias not only misbehaved with him but snatched a gold ring, gold chain and cash worth Rs 4000. Police officials said an investigation has started and a raid is on to nab the trio.
