Hazaribag, Aug 4: Police have recovered a huge amount of drugs and a machine to make brown sugar arresting two smugglers on Friday. The arrested smugglers included Ramdular Kumar and Umesh Kherwar. Both are residents of Gaya in Bihar. A total of 6 kg 400 grams of opium, 4kg 400-gram powder used in making brown sugar and 4 kg 300-gram residue of opium used in making brown sugar besides a machine for making brown sugar and an electronic scale were recovered. Even Rs 45,500 cash and two mobile phones have been recovered.

SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe said that secret information was received that a person on board a bus going to Bihar was reaching near Nagwan toll plaza under Korra police station with a large consignment of drugs. After information, a team was formed under the leadership of sub-divisional police officer Sadar, Mahesh Prajapati.

The raiding team reached the toll plaza and was secretly monitoring Veer Bajrang Chowk near Nagwan toll. During surveillance, a suspicious person was seen going from Veer Bajrang Chowk to the Canary hill area.  The suspect was apprehended by the policemen involved in the team. Two big bags were recovered from him in which drugs were found in huge quantities.

On questioning, he told the police that he was buying opium and brown sugar supplements from a place called Ramta in Khunti and there was a plan to make brown sugar from the said opium and take it to Delhi to sell at a very high price. During interrogation, the smuggler said that he has also kept a machine for making brown sugar in the forest near the Chordaha picket under the Chauparan police station area, at some distance from his house.

After this, the raiding team arrested another person involved in this business while seizing the brown sugar making machines and scales.

The smuggler was buying opium worth Rs 1 lakh per kg from Khunti, whose international price is estimated to be around Rs 5 lakh per kg. Along with the criminal history of the arrested smugglers, links to Delhi are also being probed, said Chauthe.
