Hazaribag, Nov 6: The Hazaribag Nagrik Manch member and BJP leader Anupam Sinha on Sunday protested against the district municipal corporation for not taking cognizance in regard to the out-of-order electric crematorium in the Khirgaon Muktidham.

Notably, the crematorium has not been working due to a minor snag for the past four years and eight months which has led to problems for people at the Mukti Dham.

The members of the Manch sat on a day-long dharna in Khirgaon.

Sinha said that he has informed the municipal corporation several times of the issue. He claimed that he had raised the issue in front of the municipal commissioner as well as officials of district administration a number of times. He claimed to have even informed the urban development secretary Vinay Choubey of the matter.

However, he added, when no action was taken, he decided to protest on the occasion.

Manoj Gupta, Secretary, NGO Sewa Bharti said, “The municipal corporation is sleeping and it needed a jolt to bring them out of the deep slumber. This electric crematorium was made from public money and we will not allow this fund to go to waste.”

He further added, “The project to construct a crematorium was passed by then-mayor Anjali Kumari. This was a demand of the people, however, negligence is now slowly turning the facility into a dead asset.”

JMM leader Ruchi Kujur targeted the present mayor Roshni Tirki and said, “Her inexperience has hindered development in different wards in the last five years. I will raise this issue on the government level and try to get this repair work done at its earliest.”

Rajesh Yadav, secretary of Baba Bhutnath Mandali said, “Once this electric crematorium starts functioning, it will save time as well as wood. The Mandali is taking care of the crematorium at the moment.”
