Dhanbad, Mar 9: In a first, the Vinoba Bhave University (VBU Hazaribagh) is set to create a special ‘Students Welfare Fund’, to provide financial help to the students who fail to fill up the examination fee due to fund crunch. Now no student at Vinoba Bhave University (VBU Hazaribagh) will miss study and examinations due to financial troubles.

Revealing this ambitious plan, VBU vice-chancellor (V-C) Dr Mukul Narayan Dev said that for this ambitious scheme, fund is being created and bio-laws are being prepared to roll out the project as soon as possible.

“It has been found that sometimes a student suffers through sheer hardship and is not able to fill up the examination fee. So separate and special ‘Welfare Fund’ is being created to help such type of students in crisis,” said vice-chancellor Dr Mukul Narayan Dev.

Dr Dev, the renowned scientist of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Mumbai, said that besides the ‘Special Welfare Fund’, the university is also going to set up a health centre on the campus in the interest of students, faculty members and employees of the institution.

“VBU has also introduced an e-rickshaw facility for girl students from the University gate to the department as well as the office. This facility would save harassment and time of girl students in attending classes,” said Dr Dev.

Vice-chancellor further said that besides students, the university has also focused on the welfare of teachers and non-teaching staff and has made a mechanism to ensure they get pensions from the very next month after retirement.

Students organisation of the university and retired professors of VBU have highly appreciated the plan of the VC.

Former senior professor of VBU and Teachers Association general secretary Prof BN Singh highly appreciated the scheme. He said that though the ‘Students Welfare Fund’ is already in all universities/colleges if VBU is creating separate special funds, it is a welcome step.

“In fact, all of us teachers are for the welfare of students. We should support all steps that would help students,” said Prof BN Singh, who is now in BBMKU Dhanbad.
