Jamshedpur, June 19: There will be no respite from sweltering conditions as heat wave would prevail in isolated places over north-west and southern Jharkhand today.
An alert of thunderstorm and lightning accompanied with strong surface wind (speed: 30-40 kmph) was also issued for isolated places over north-east, south and adjoining central parts of the state today.
Jharkhand has been facing one of the worst summers in recent few years with day’s reading at some places climbing to as high as 44- 45 degree Celsius.
This is resulting in relentless heat wave condition at many places during the past few days.
Daltonganj was the hottest place across the state during the last 24 hours with the maximum temperature notching as high as 44.5 degree Celsius which is eight points above the normal.
Met office statistics revealed that apart from Daltonganj, Ranchi and Giridih were facing severe conditions while Jamshedpur and other parts of Kolhan are in the grip of heat wave.
Meanwhile, satellite pictures suggested that the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Ratnagiri, Koppal, Puttaparthi, Shriharikota, Malda and Forbesganj.
Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon over some more parts of south Peninsular India, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during next 2-3 days.
A cyclonic circulation was also lying over northeast Bihar and a trough runs from this cyclonic circulation to east Vidarbha across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh at 0.9 Km above mean sea level.
