Jamshedpur, Aug 10: Several places in southern and central Jharkhand were expected to experience heavy rain today, said a forecast issued by IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre.
Today’s satellite images suggested that a well-marked low-pressure area over coastal areas of Odisha and the northwest Bay of Bengal moved slowly west-northwest and concentrated into a depression and lay centred over coastal Odisha. It is likely to move gradually west-northwestwards.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Naliya, Ahmedabad, Indore, Mandla, Raigarh,
centre of depression over coastal Odisha and thence southeastwards to the north Andaman Sea and extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Jamshedpur and several other places in Kolhan and central Jharkhand witnessed intermittent rains.
The weather office also issued an alert of gusty wind blowing at a speed of 30-40 Kmph in southern Jharkhand today.
Statistics suggested that the rain deficit of Jharkhand stood at 48 per cent. Against a normal of 599.4 mm the state so far actually received 311.1 mm of rain.
