Jamshedpur, Aug 2: Heavy rain is expected at isolated places over western and southern parts of Jharkhand today.
IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre also issued an alert of very heavy rain ( more than 120 mm ) in Gumla, Lohardaga and Simdega districts today.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected at a few isolated places over Jharkhand today.
The depression over the Northeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 25 kmph and intensified into a deep depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal off Bangladesh coast near latitude 21.2°N and longitude 91.2°E, about 160 Km east-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 420 km east of Digha (West Bengal).
The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level that runs close to the foothills of the Himalayas and the eastern end now passes through Gorakhpur, Patna, Sriniketan, Canning and thence east-southeastwards to the centre of deep depression over the northeast Bay of Bengal off Bangladesh coast.
Light to moderate rain was observed at most places over the state during the last 24 hours while heavy rain was observed at few places and very heavy to extremely heavy rain was also experienced at isolated places over the state.
According to statistics, the highest rainfall recorded during the past two days was 212.4 mm at Pakartand (Simdega).
Several places in the Kolhan region including Chandil, Ghatshila and Ichhagarh experienced very heavy rainfall of around 120 mm during the past 48 – hours.
The widespread and heavy rainfall brought down the state’s rain deficit to 44 %. According to statistics against a normal of 517 mm of rain, the state has so far received 291 mm.
