Ranchi: A major traffic jam brought movement to a standstill from Ratu Road to Kutchery on Monday as bridge construction work near Kutchery Chowk triggered road closures and diversions. The situation worsened after a large pit was dug in the middle of the road, prompting authorities to install barricades and diversion signs, disrupting the usual flow of traffic.
Two-wheelers and four-wheelers were seen stuck in long queues, inching forward through narrow passages. The worst affected were office-goers, school children, and individuals heading out for urgent tasks, many of whom were delayed significantly.
Ripple Effect on Other Roads
The impact of the congestion extended beyond the immediate construction area. Heavy traffic was also reported on Harmu Road and Main Road, where commuters were trapped in snarls for hours. Traffic police were deployed in large numbers and faced considerable difficulty managing the overflow.
Frustrated commuters acknowledged the necessity of road and bridge construction but demanded that the administration implement better traffic management strategies during such critical work. “Development is important, but the administration must ensure that daily commuters don’t suffer like this,” said a local resident stuck near Main Road.
Authorities have not yet issued any official statement on how long the traffic disruptions will continue, but citizens have urged for immediate alternate arrangements.
