Ranchi, Feb. 15: The special CBI court of Sudhanshu Kumar Shashi in Ranchi on Tuesday convicted former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad in a fodder scam case RC 47 A/96 related to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crores from Doranda treasury of Ranchi during 1995-96.
Out of 99 accused, the court convicted 75 and acquitted the rest of them. In the case of Lalu Prasad, the court has fixed February 21 to pronounce the quantum of punishment. Lalu Prasad, RK Rana and Dhruwa Bhagat are among the politicians of Bihar who have been convicted by the court.
Lalu Prasad pleaded before the court about his poor health and requested his treatment at RIMS. The court is set to hear his plea at 2.30 PM.
Meanwhile, the RIMS administration has kept ready one of its paying wards A 11 in case the court refers him to RIMS for the treatment. RIMS superintendent Dr. Hiran Birua said in case Lalu Prasad is referred to RIMS, a medical board will be constituted for his treatment.
The court will also hear the quantum of punishment of other convicts on February 18.
The court acquitted Rajendra Pandey, Dinanath Sahay, Ramsevak Sahu, Ainul Haque, Sanaul Haque, Md Ekram, Md Hussain, Shero Nisha, Kalashmani Kashyap, Baldeo Sahu, Ranjeet Sinha, Anil Kumar Sinha (supplier), Nirmala Prasad, Kumari Anita Prasad, Ramavatar Sharma, Chanchala Singh, Ramashankar Sinha, basant Sulin Srivastava, Harish Khanna, Madhu and Dr. Kameshwar Prasad.
