Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has sternly warned the state government, stating that if its 2022 order is not implemented by December 6, 2024, the salaries of the Secretary and Director of Higher Education will be withheld. This directive was issued in response to a contempt petition filed by Anil Kumar, a lecturer at Barharwa College in Sahibganj, along with others.
Justice Dr. SN Pathak presided over the hearing, where petitioners Anil Kumar and his fellow complainants argued through their legal representatives, Advocates Sanjay Piparwal and Prince Kumar. The petition was filed as a result of the state government’s failure to provide the benefits of the 5th and 6th Pay Commissions to the lecturers, which had been previously ordered by a single bench of the High Court.
Back in 2022, the court had directed the state government to grant the petitioners the benefits of the 5th and 6th pay scales. Despite the ruling, the state has not complied with the order, prompting the petitioners to file a contempt case. The court has now set December 6 as the deadline for compliance, failing which the salary of the Secretary and Director of Higher Education will be blocked.
