Himachal polls: 98.08% voter turnout at world’s highest polling booth Tashigang

Tashigang, Nov 12: Voter turnout at the world’s highest polling station Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Spiti was recorded at 98.08% as 51 of the 52 registered voters participated in the ongoing voting to elect 68 members of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. A total of 412 candidates are contesting the polls.

Voter turnout in the state was 55% from the start of voting at 8 am until 3 pm. The Election Commission previously placed focus on specific measures to boost voter turnout. Voting started off slowly but eventually gathered up speed.

In the first hour, the state barely saw a 5% voter turnout. 37.19% of votes were cast as of 1 p.m. Sirmour district had the highest turnout (41.89%), which was followed by Mandi (41.17%), which is where Chief Minister Jairam Thakur hails from. Chamba witnessed 28.35% voting through 1 o’clock.

The votes will be tallied and the results will be announced on December 8.
