Daltonganj, Mar 20: It is almost the third consecutive day that Covid vaccination of children in the age group 12 to 14 (born between 15.3.2008 and 15.3.2010) is limping in Daltonganj.
The vaccination centre at Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) Daltonganj today saw a trickle of kids for the vaccination post-Holi.
One vial of Corbevax was opened here this morning and the lone computer man told this correspondent he is anxiously waiting for the kids to come to make the final count of the vaccination 20 today.
Consumption of 20 doses per vial of Corbevax zeroes any wastage of the vaccine.
No vaccination of kids of the eligible age was done today at the community health centre Chainpur. It was shut barring emergency medical services.
The medical officer in charge of the community health centre at Chainpur Dr. Chaman Kumar Bhardwaj said, “Our team would make all efforts to vaccinate the eligible kids once schools get opened.”
Bhardwaj conceded that two consecutive festivals, Holi and Shab-e-Barat, might have made parents and kids a little bit relaxed not to have vaccination on the post-festival.
He spoke the identical thing about the team of the vaccinations like ANMs and the verifiers as well who do not mind giving a miss ostensibly citing festival fatigue.
“We need to have a shelf of ANMs and other such personnel who feel free to work in the event of mass festivals which do not coincide with their faith and preoccupy them,” he said.
Bhardwaj, expressing hope, said that he would ask the block programme manager to see the smooth running of the kids’ vaccination.
Another festival Ram Navami is due in April and health officials are wary of kids’ vaccination getting a miss on a couple of days of this 9-days long festival.
Palamu Civil surgeon Dr. Anil Kumar said, “We will again gear up our teams to have good results. The kids’ target is below 96,000. Our team will reach it”
Latehar Civil Surgeon Dr. Haren Chandra Mahto said the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya management has asked for a vaccination team to be sent to the campus this afternoon for vaccination of 40 to 50 eligible kids of the school.
“Our team is ready to visit the school once we get a call to come there,” Dr. Mahto said.
Garhwa Civil Surgeon Dr. Kamlesh Kumar said vaccination of eligible kids remained a non-starter today in his district.
“We are looking forward to schools to open where we will be approaching for the vaccination of the eligible kids,” he said.
