New Delhi, August 4: Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the Union Home Secretary, received a one-year extension on Friday until August 22, 2024, per a Personnel Ministry order.
In the position, he has received a fourth extension.
Bhalla was appointed home secretary in August 2019. He is a 1984-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Assam-Meghalaya cadre and a member of the 1984 batch.
When he became 60 years old in November 2020, he was supposed to retire. His term was first extended on October 17, 2020, till August 22, 2021.
Bhalla’s term was extended by one year each in 2021 and 2022.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved extending Bhalla’s service for an additional year i.e. up to August 22, 2024, from August 22, 2023, the order stated.
