Hormuz Strait: A tense naval standoff unfolded in the Strait of Hormuz after two US Navy destroyers passed through the strategic waterway, prompting Iranian forces to issue a sharp warning even as diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran were underway in Islamabad.
Iran Issues Final Warning
According to reports, Iranian forces challenged the US vessels over radio communication, warning, “This is the last warning.” In response, an American ship said its passage was in accordance with international law and that it intended to comply with ceasefire rules.
Despite the confrontation, the guided-missile destroyers reportedly crossed the strait without direct conflict.
Strategic Waterway Back in Focus
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical maritime routes, handling a significant share of global crude oil shipments. The latest incident came after weeks of disruption caused by the regional conflict and restrictions on maritime traffic.
Iran has maintained that ships seeking safe transit through the strait should coordinate with its authorities, while the United States has rejected any claim of Iranian control over the route.
US Mission to Reopen Shipping Route
The US Central Command later said the destroyers had begun operations aimed at restoring commercial navigation, including efforts to detect and clear sea mines. Officials described the mission as a signal that freedom of navigation must be preserved.
Admiral Brad Cooper said a safe maritime pathway would soon be shared with the shipping industry to encourage trade flow.
Talks Fail in Islamabad
The maritime confrontation came alongside failed peace negotiations in Islamabad. US Vice President JD Vance said Iran rejected Washington’s final offer, while Tehran blamed US demands for the deadlock.
The combined diplomatic and military developments have increased uncertainty over whether the temporary ceasefire can hold.
