Hospitals decrease Covid beds as cases decline in Ranchi

Ranchi, Feb 9: With the decrease in Covid-19 cases in the capital city, Sadar Hospital and Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) have reduced the designated beds for Covid-19 in both the hospitals.

As many as 480 beds were designated for the treatment of Covid-19 patients in the Sadar Hospital. At present, only 80 beds are available in the hospital for corona-infected patients and only one covid-19 patient is admitted to the hospital.

At the same time, RIMS was utilising 8 wards for Covid-19 patients. At present only 3 wards including NTC second floor, Dengue and Pediatric II are being utilised with a total of 15 corona infected patients admitted to RIMS.

Earlier, wards including NTC 2nd floor, New paying, Dengue, Medicine D2, Surgery D2, Pediatric II, Pedia Surgery and Ortho A2 were being utilised to treat the covid infected patients at RIMS.

Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital, Dr. SS Mandal said that currently only 80 beds are available for the Covid-19 patients and other beds have been made available for the general patients. The special ward which was made for corona-infected children is also made available to the general patients.

RIMS Public Relations Officer, Dipendra Kumar Sinha said that the wards which have no covid infected patients are being utilised for the general patients.

“If suddenly patient number increases then the wards having general patients will be vacated to accommodate the corona infected patients,” Sinha said.

New Covid cases in Ranchi dipped further on Tuesday with only 38 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours. On Monday the district had logged 50 new cases. Currently, the number of active cases in Ranchi stands at 749.

On Tuesday, the state logged one death and 264 new infections while 412 people were declared cured in the last 24 hours, according to the health bulletin on Tuesday night. The cumulative active caseload in the state has currently come down to 2,272.
