New Delhi, May 4: In the annual update released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for 2021/22, India have extended their lead at the top of the T20 rankings. India had previously led second-placed England by one point in the shortest format of the game since Rohit Sharma took over as captain following the T20 World Cup last year, but the difference has now grown to five points.

In the yearly Test rankings, India is still nine points behind Australia. Meanwhile, New Zealand continues to lead the ODI rankings, but England is only a point behind them in second place. Australia is in third place, while India is in fourth.

“The new rankings reflect all T20I series completed since May 2019, with those completed prior to May 2021 weighted at 50 per cent and subsequent series weighted at 100 per cent,” ICC said in its statement.

With 270 rating points, India leads the T20 rankings, while England has 265. With 261 points, Pakistan completes the top three.

In the Test rankings, Australia’s lead over second-placed India has grown from one to nine rating points, while Pakistan has above England to occupy fifth place.

India has also earned a point to move to 119, but England has lost nine points after their 4-1 series victory over India in 2018 was eliminated from the rankings. England’s 88 rating points are the lowest they’ve received since 1995.

In the annual update, which drops the 2018-19 season and represents all series completed since May 2019, Australia, who thrashed England 4-0 in the Ashes in January, has moved from 119 to 128 rating points.
