New Delhi, Oct 23: In their opening Super 12 match of the 2022 T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland by nine wickets on Sunday at Bellerive Oval in Hobart thanks to to Kusal Mendis’s unbeaten score of 68 runs off 43 balls.
Mendis led his team to victory in just 15.0 overs while chasing 129. Prior to being given the opportunity to bowl first, Sri Lanka was able to contain Ireland at 128/8 in 20 overs thanks to two-wicket hauls from Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana.
Harry Tector (45), Paul Stirling (31) and George Dockrell (14) all played crucial innings for Ireland.
