New Delhi, Feb 6: A day after India won a record-extending fifth World Cup trophy in Antigua, Yash Dhull was appointed captain of the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup Team of the Tournament.
On Saturday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Yash-led India defeated England by 4 wickets in the final to claim the championship.
Three Indians have been named to the ICC’s U19 World Cup Team of the Tournament, which was announced on Sunday. Apart from Yash, who is the captain, the team also includes left-arm spinner Vicky Oswal and all-rounder Raj Bawa.
While Oswal led India’s bowling attack with 12 wickets, Bawa scored 252 runs in six games, including the tournament’s highest score of 162 against Uganda. Bawa starred in the final on Saturday, taking 5-wickets and becoming the first Indian man to do so in an ICC tournament final.
Yash Dhull, on the other side, ended with 229 runs in four matches despite missing two games owing to Covid-19. In the semi-final, he excelled, scoring a game-winning 110 against Australia.
In total, eight countries are represented in the 12-player lineup, with winners India leading the way with three players.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis was announced as the Player of the Tournament for the ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in West Indies for his record-breaking run haul.
