ICFAI University students visit CCL Mines for Industrial tour

Ranchi, April 16: The ICFAI University arranged an industrial visit for the B.Tech and Diploma students of Mining and Mechanical branches to underground and open cast mines of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) to make them aware of practical aspects of the Mining and Mining Machinery.

The students visited the Churi underground mine in the N K area and Ashoka open cast mine of Piparwar area under the guidance of faculty members of the university. The Project Officer made a presentation on the workings of various equipment in underground mining and talked of precautions to be taken during the underground visit. All the students went to the underground mine and learned about the workings of Continuous Miners, Battery Holders, and Feeder Breakers. The site engineer further explained to the students the method of coal mining by mass production technology.

After the underground excursion, the students left for Ashoka Open Cast Mine in Piparwar area, where the students were briefed about the workings of an opencast. Thereafter, the students observed the workings of Surface Miner, Hallpack and Shovel etc. During the visit, the students also understood the different methods of coal mining and their advantages and disadvantages along with how to use different types of mining machinery.

During the visit Prof. Mithilesh Mishra, HOD, Mining Department, Dr. Rajesh Prasad, HOD, Mechanical, Prof. Manohar Kumar Singh and Prof. Suman Badal guided the students during the visit.
