Ranchi, April 16: Around 1500 national and international wrestlers are taking part in the National Wrestling Competition which is being held at Ganpat Rai Indoor Stadium in Hotwar, Ranchi. The competition, which began on April 15, will continue till April 19 under the aegis of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Federation.
Rajneesh Kumar, General Secretary of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association has said that the competition is a stepping stone for wrestlers from Jharkhand as they will get a chance to rub shoulders with some famous international wrestlers. The wrestlers present in the competition will go on to represent the country at the highest level.
The competition is being held in two different categories for men and women, the Under-17 Sub Junior Wrestling Competition and Federation Cup Senior National Wrestling Competition.
This competition was inaugurated by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and President of Wrestling Federation of India, and Brij Bhushan Singh, MP of Kesarganj, Uttar Pradesh on April 15. There are no entry tickets for the audience and anyone who wishes to watch the competition can watch it for free in the stadium.
Some of the famous international wrestlers who have represented India at the Olympics will be a part of the competition to motivate the budding wrestlers. They are Sushil Kumar, Yogeshvar Dutt, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Bajrang Puniya.
