Mumbai, Jan 5: Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot’s appeal against the Central Bureau of investigations (CBI) detention in the Videocon-ICICI Bank loan case was denied by a Mumbai court on Thursday.
Special judge SH Gwalani pronounced the verdict today after reserving the same for order on January 4.
Despite working with the CBI, Dhoot claimed he was arbitrarily detained two days after Chanda Kochhar, the former CEO of ICICI Bank, and her husband Deepak.
Special CBI Court rejected a plea filed by Videocon Group Chairman Venugopal Dhoot challenging his arrest by CBI in the Videocon-ICICI Bank loan case.

Dhoot’s attorney, Sandeep Ladda, said that the Kochhars’ remand order also included a statement from their attorneys explaining why Dhoot had not been detained. The worry, according to Ladda, was that Dhoot might end up as an approver.
As a result, the agency came under pressure and;had to mechanically arrest Dhoot,’ according to Ladda.
Ladda further argued that despite the fact that he had complied with the summons, the agency had violated the rules established by the Supreme Court by illegally arresting him.
He told the court that notwithstanding Kochhars’ detention, Dhoot showed up at the CBI office on December 26 and was subsequently detained. A Limosin of the CBI noted that Dhoot had not shown up despite being served with a summons.
On December 23, the Kochhars were detained in New Delhi, and on December 24, they were brought before a special CBI court in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Dhoot was detained on December 26. The group was held in judicial detention until January 10 as a whole.
In connection with a loan of 3,250 crore given to the Videocon Group in 2012 that the ICICI Bank later classified as a non-performing asset, Chanda is charged with fraud and irregularities.
