Ranchi, Jan.17: The body of an IIM (Ranchi) student was found hanging in his hostel room. He was identified as Shivam Pandey (23), a resident of Varanasi in UP. Police started a probe after the recovery of the body.
This is the fourth case of suspected suicide in Ranchi in the last one week.
The matter came to the fore after IIM-R officials broke and opened the door after getting no response from outside after repeated attempts.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kishore Kaushal confirmed the recovery saying ‘prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide as the door was found closed from outside.’
“Close relatives of the student suspected otherwise, saying it was wrong on the part of the IIM management to break open the door without informing the police. IIM officials said the door was broken open with an intention to save the student in case of any chance. Probe is on,” Kaushal said.
This is the fourth case of suicide in Ranchi during the last one week.
On January 11, the body of a Marwari College student Shagufta Parveen (18 was found hanging in her room at Shreya Girls Hostel located under Lalpur police station area. She was from Lalpania in Bokaro district.
On January 15, the body of another girl was found hanging in a room at her house near BIT, Mesra. Her family members lodged an FIR in the connection saying she was hanged after rape. They also named suspects in the FIR and staged demonstrations for his arrest on January 16.
On the same day, a class VIII student of A.G.Church High School, Karan Bhokta, was found hanging at his residence at Cheshire Home Road under Sadar police station area in the state capital.
