Dhanbad, Aug 8: In a bid to inculcate scientific temperament among rural students, the IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) team of the Management Studies department made Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Tundi aware of the nitty-gritty of machine learning, robotics, cells and molecules.

The team led by Rashmi Singh, the assistant professor at the Department of Management Studies of the institute, reached Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Tundi, around 34 km away from Dhanbad district headquarters and interacted with girls on various points.

Besides apprising the girls about the nuances of science and technology, Faculty members also satiated the quest of the students during the five-hour-long session at school.

Arun Dayal, Assistant Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering kicked off the session with a presentation on Robotics and explained about actuators, motor, battery, sensors and their workability.

Prof Niladri Das on the other hand threw light on the relevance of science in day to day life. During his presentation, Prof Das also solved the inquisitive girl students about cells and molecules.

During the programme, the faculty members of IIT ISM explained to the rural girls the minute details of machine learning in a quite simplified manner.

“The students were very anxious to understand the process of ‘Machine Learning ‘and had made several queries which proved they can be groomed as budding scientists,” said Prof Rashmi Singh. She further added that It was an interesting session wherein we had received quite interesting questions including about Covid, vaccination and significance of booster doses and others.

Notably, the session was organized in Tundi on Sunday as part of the Department of Science and Technology project under ‘Motivate School Students and Teachers Concerning the Relevance of Science and Technology’.

“The series of workshops being organized under the project aims at inculcating scientific temperament among students. The project started from Adivasi School, Bagdaha in Baghmara block of Dhanbad district on August 2 and later a similar workshop was also held at Parasbania School Nawadih,” said Rashmi Singh.
