IIT ISM’s CIL Innovation Centre to revolutionise automation in mining sector

Dhanbad, Nov 4: “The CIL Innovation and Incubation Centre at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad would revolutionise the automation in the mining sector of the country,” claimed Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman Pramod Agrawal, who inaugurated the incubation centre on Thursday evening.

The inauguration took place on the occasion of the inaugural function of Geo Mining Fest of India-Khanan’22. Pramod Agarwal also said that some technologies developed at the centre and TEXMin are quite useful and have the potential to help in improving the mining sector.

CIL chairman inspects Innovation Centre

“CIL has started the Innovation and Incubation Centre at IIT ISM Dhanbad with the aim of developing such technologies which can help in automation in the mining sector,” he said.

IIT ISM Director Prof Rajeev Shekhar, Deputy Director Prof Dhiraj Kumar and senior officers of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) also graced the inaugural ceremony of CIL Innovation and Incubation Centre and launching of Tech Expo-2022.

Prof Dhiraj Kumar said that the technologies and products developed by TEXMiN which are displayed at the Expo are aimed to achieve Mining 4.0 or Digital Mining which is the need of the hour in the view of increasing demand of Mining companies to reduce the operating cost and also to achieve safe, smart and sustainable mining.

Chief Executive Officer of TEXMiN Suraj Kumar said that during the interaction with the innovators, he discussed such areas of automation which require their intervention in form of research for automation and digitalization

“This year, 3 startups named Deep Matrix Private Limited, Encross Technologies Private Limited and Futurotec Solutions were inducted under the incubation program by TEXMiN,” said the chief business development officer (CBDO) of TEXMiN, Muhammed Danish.

He further added that apart from this, two teams-including Pushpak of IIT Kanpur Students and Rethinq of IIT (ISM) have been selected for pre-incubation by TEXMiN while two other teams of IIT (ISM), Team Pinnacle and Team Bharatvarsh VR have been selected for pre-incubation by CIL Innovation and Incubation Centre.

The four-day gala event of Geo Mining Fest of the country- Khanan’22 of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME-USA) will see the participation of over 600 students and captains of the industry.

Besides technical events, panel discussions, and lectures by eminent personalities will be held next three days from November 4-6 as part of Khanan’22 which is being organized by IIT (ISM) in association with TEXMiN and CIL Innovation and Incubation Centre.
