New Delhi, March 1: Air India’s MD & CEO-designate Ilker Ayci has declined his appointment, citing an e-mailed press release sent by Ayci in Turkish, according to Bloomberg.
“I have come to the conclusion that it would not be a feasible or an honourable decision to accept the position in the shadow of such a narrative,” Ayci said in his statement.
His employment was contingent on the Ministry of Home Affairs providing him with security clearance, and he was anticipated to begin work on or before April 1.
Earlier, the RSS-affiliated Swadeshi Jagran Manch had expressed “concerns” over Ayci’s ties to Recep Tayyip Erdoan, Turkey’s current President, and had criticised the Mumbai-based conglomerate’s choice to lead Air India.
