Jamshedpur, April 14: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre this afternoon issued an alert of light to moderate thundershowers and lightning in the Kolhan region which includes three districts East Singhbhum, Seraikela – Kharsawan and West Singhbhum.
The alert was issued as a nowcast at around 1:30 p.m. Nowcast is a short-term forecast.
According to the nowcast, a thunderstorm accompanied by rain was expected within two to three hours of the short term forecast issuance.
Weathermen said today’s satellite pictures indicated the formation of convective clouds in some pockets of the state, especially in the Kolhan region.
“Extreme heat coupled with moisture usually triggers thunderstorms and rain during this time of the season. The moisture in the sir was lacking all these days and this resulted in a dry spell and a heatwave which was continuing in northwestern, southern and central Jharkhand for more than a fortnight now, ” said a Met official in Ranchi.
Jharkhand is in the grip of rigorous heat with Daltonganj and its adjoining areas in northwestern Jharkhand recording around 44 degrees Celsius for the second consecutive day today while Jamshedpur was recording around 43 degrees Celsius.
Garhwa, Giridih, Godda and even Ranchi, which enjoys altitude, were experiencing an oppressive day’s reading for the last few days.
