New Delhi, Dec 14: Rishabh Pant became the second Indian wicketkeeper to reach the 4,000-run mark in international cricket on Wednesday. On Day One of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, the left-hander accomplished the feat.
The only other Indian wicketkeeper with more than 4000 runs at the highest level is MS Dhoni. Dhoni scored 17092 runs at an average of 44.74 in 535 international games, with 15 hundreds and 108 half-centuries.
Pant has amassed 4021 runs at an average of 33.78 in 128 games so far, with the highest score of 159.
However, Pant has 3651 runs from 109 games as a team’s designated wicketkeeper, including six hundreds and 15 half-centuries.
On Wednesday, Pant hit six fours and two sixes on his route to 46 runs off 45 balls. He and Cheteshwar Pujara shared a 64-run partnership for the fourth wicket after India’s early wickets of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli fell too fast succession.
Pant left the pitch while attempting to tackle Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who was named Player of the Series after Bangladesh defeated the United States 2-1 in the three-match ODI series. Mehidy delivered the hosts a wicket early in the second session after Bangladesh, led by Shakib Al Hasan, took three wickets in the first session.
Pant made his international cricket debut back in 2017 and struggled a bit at first, but he has now solidly established himself.
